Volunteering

The City of Sierra Madre relies on its residents to contribute their energy and resources to build a safe and enriching place to live. The volunteer program is an opportunity for its residents to get involved. There are a wide range of volunteer opportunities available across all departments and volunteering is highly encouraged. Volunteering for the City is an opportunity for residents to learn about their local government, meet new people, make a difference in the community, as well as document new job skills.

Those interested will undergo an initial departmental interview where the department volunteer coordinator will assess the applicants’ interests, talents, and availability. After the initial interview, the volunteer coordinator will present various volunteer opportunities that match the individuals' needs.

Depending on the position, volunteer applicants will undergo a formal screening process before being accepted by the City as a volunteer. A minimum of two references may be contacted. In some cases, fingerprinting will be requested and a criminal background check may occur. Once accepted, the volunteer will be given a general orientation and training under the volunteers' department.

Volunteer applicants under 18 years of age must obtain parental consent and include a Waiver and Release of Liability form with their application.
