Building & Safety Permits

Permits and applications can be completed in-person or online. City staff is available in-person Monday - Thursdays from 7:30AM - 5:30PM. Completed applications can be emailed to [email protected]. Upon receipt, a staff member will reach out for payment. Once paid, we will process the permit and email the applicant their receipt, permits and inspection record.

Please note that building and safety permits can only be pulled by a State of California Licensed Contractor or a Property Owner.

Contractors applying for a permit must supply the following items with every application:

  1. Proof of identification (picture I.D.)
  2. Proof of State of California Contractors’ License & Classification (pocket card)
  3. City of Sierra Madre Business License
  4. Proof of valid & current Workers’ Compensation Insurance Certificate (if required)
  5. If agent or contractor, applicants also need a notarized letter of authorization from the property owner.

Property owners applying for a permit must supply the following items with every application:

  1. Proof of identification (picture I.D.)
  2. Proof of Ownership (Grant Deed, Property Tax Statement)
  3. If Trust: Trust information showing permit holder as Trustee
  4. If Corporation, LLC or Partnership: Information verifying permit holder as President or Authorized Representative.
  5. If agent for the owner: All of the above plus a notarized letter of authorization from the owner, including the owner’s driver’s license number.
  6. Owner/Builder Affidavit  (Please review, initial and sign).
