Sierra Madre Older American

2025 Older American of the Year

We are proud to celebrate Heidi Hartman as Sierra Madre’s 2025 Older American of the Year — a woman whose life has been a testament to service, leadership, and unwavering community spirit.

Born and raised in the charming town of Sierra Madre, known for its world-famous Wistaria, Heidi balanced a meaningful career in teaching while raising three wonderful children. Over the years, her deep commitment to her hometown has been evident in every project she has touched.

Among her many contributions, Heidi helped raise nearly $200,000 alongside a small group of parents to restore and preserve the historic Sierra Madre School auditorium — a legacy that continues to benefit students and the entire community.

In 2021, she received the Spirit of Sierra Madre Award from the Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding volunteerism and support of the city.

But Heidi's impact reaches even further:

  • She was one of the founding members of Sierra Madre’s and the American Cancer Society’s first Relay for Life, a program that eventually led to the creation of the Spero Foundation.
  • As one of the original five founders of the Spero Foundation, she played a vital role in taking over fundraising for popular community events such as Hops for Hope, the Wine Walk, and Wine, Rhythm & Blues.
  • A dedicated docent for the Wistaria Festival, and long-time Civic Club volunteer, Heidi coordinated events like the Halloween Window Painting and Scarecrow Contest.
  • Since joining the Sierra Madre Civic Club in 2004, she has served in various leadership roles and is currently a 2023–2025 Board Member.
  • As a committed Sierra Madre Event Committee member, she worked closely with children participating in the Firecracker Fun Run, which she originally helped sponsor.
  • She is also active on the Mount Wilson Trail Race Committee.

Heidi Hartman’s legacy is one of tireless generosity, unmatched dedication, and genuine love for Sierra Madre. Her efforts have strengthened the community in ways both big and small, leaving a lasting impact on all who know her.

Congratulations, Heidi, and thank you for everything you do!
