Community Emergency Response Team

Sierra Madre's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves the community of Sierra Madre and surrounding neighbors. The organization operates under the direction of the Sierra Madre Fire Department, and prepares individuals for disaster management and recovery.

BECOME A CERT MEMBER

One of CERT's goals is to educate the citizens of Sierra Madre about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and train them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in our community. CERT members receive 20+ hours of initial training in the FEMA-certified CERT Based Training Class, followed by refresher drills and ongoing training provided through Sierra Madre CERT and the Sierra Madre Fire Department.

CERT training is provided free of charge within the County of Los Angeles to anyone 18 or over.
