Under the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), most discretionary projects within the City are required to receive
some level of environmental review. This review provides information regarding
environmental impacts associated with particular projects and identifies
mitigation measures, which may reduce or eliminate significant impacts. The
objective of environmental review is to provide clear information to the
decision makers about the potential environmental impacts of their actions,
which is the intent of CEQA. The Planning & Community Preservation Department and the Planning Commission are responsible for reviewing projects relative to environmental concerns and
compliance with CEQA.
